Assessment and Screening
At American Youth Academy, we employ various assessment methods to gauge our students' academic mastery. Our pre-K students undergo assessment using the Creative Curriculum Assessment Tool, which is conducted by teachers and the Director.
Additionally, our VPK students are administered the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) STAR Early Literacy three times a year, along with developmental progress assessments as needed. It is implemented in all VPK programs as required by the state and used to assess student achievement of the performance standards established in early literacy and mathematics.
In the event that screening reveals concerns about a student's development, the Child Study Team, consisting of the child's lead teacher, administrator, and ESE department, will meet with parents to discuss and recommend any necessary on-campus or off-campus screenings.
We want to emphasize that parents have the option to choose whether or not their children are screened. If parents choose NOT to have their child screened, they must inform the lead teacher/administration in writing.
